#FamousFriday: 5 Reasons Why Mark Zuckerberg & Jay-Z are the Same Person

In this edition of #FamousFriday, I’d like to take a look at Jay-Z and Mark Zuckerberg.  As you already know, Jay-Z is a hip hop legend and successful businessman.  Not only is he considered one of the best rappers of all time, but he owns several brands including the 40/40 Club,  Ace of Spades, and even held a minority stake in the Brooklyn Nets.   Mark Zuckerberg is the founder of Facebook and is pretty darn successful as well.   He’s one of the  youngest billionaires in the world, and Facebook has over 1.23 billion users.   Even though Jay-Z’s and Mark Zuckerberg’s backgrounds and professions are completely different, they share several similar characteristics.  In this edition of #FamousFriday, I’ll share 5 reasons why Hov and Mark are basically the same person.

1.       They Have the Same Personality Type

Jay-Z and Mark Zuckerberg both have INTJ personality types (Analysts).  This commonality is what sets the stage for the rest of the similarities I’m going to outline.   INTJs are extremely intelligent,  strategic at nature, and are perfectionists.  INTJ’s work tireless to perfect their craft, and typically rise to the top ranks of whatever industry they’re in. Some people describe the INTJ as arrogant, as they usually feel they are superior to others in intellect and ability.   They are typically even tempered, and have great control over their emotions.    All of those characteristics describe both Jay-Z and Mark Zuckerberg.

2.       Both Had Epic Fall-outs

Both Jay-Z and Mark Zuckerberg experience legendary fall-outs with business partners/ friends.   Jay-Z and Dame Dash parted ways under hostile conditions, and Mark Zuckerberg had a heated falling out with Edwardo Saverin.   Pure coincidence?  Probably not, and I’ll explain why.

INTJ’s are strategists, and treat business like a chess board.    Every relationship is a chess piece, and it is their goal to manipulate those pieces to ensure success.  However, when one those chess pieces doesn’t cooperate, the INTJ can get frustrated and formulate an alternative strategy.    Typically, this alternative strategy  includes removing the problem party.  Another characteristic of INTJ’s is that they are often drawn to high status advisors, and often take their advice on business decisions.   Both of these factors played a part in Jay-Z’s and Mark Zuckerberg’s epic fall-outs.

Dame Dash pointed the finger at Steve Stoute’s influence over Jay-Z as the reason for their falling out  in this article about Rocafella’s disbanding. However, Jay cites shady business practices by Dame as the reason that they parted ways.   Similarly, Sean Parker is often blamed for the rift between Eduardo Saverin and Mark Zuckerberg.  The movie the Social Network, which is based on Saverin’s  side of the story, portrays Sean Parker as having undue influence over Mark.   However, this article in Gawker illustrates that Mark felt Saverin made poor business decisions, and decided to cut him out of Facebook for this reason.

3.       Both Had Long Courtships to Highly  Accomplished Women

INTJ (and most Analyst men) are extremely selective when it comes to dating.   INTJ's are extremely autonomous, and are quite content to be to themselves.  INTJ men are usually too busy working to date, or are not interested in anything more serious than playing  the field.   However, when an INTJ man does decide to date seriously, the object of his affection is usually a highly accomplished individual.   Jay-Z and Mark Zuckerberg are no exception.

Jay-Z’s wife, Beyonce Knowles-Carter,  has long been one of the top female recording artists of this generation.   Mark Zuckerberg’s wife, Priscilla Chan, speaks three languages, was voted class genius in high school, is Harvard educated,  and is a doctor.   Another similarity their courtships share is that they were both involved in long courtships with their wives prior to getting married.  Mark dated Priscilla for 9 years before tying the knot, and Jay-Z dated Beyonce for 8 years.

4.       Both Exude Uncomfortable Energy

Jay and Mark exude both extreme confidence in their craft.  However, both also seem uncomfortable speaking in public.   This is a classic INTJ trait as they are typically uncomfortable when being put on the spot to speak, during interviews, or when addressing a crowd.

Mark Zuckerberg often has a nervous look on his face, as his eyes look like a gazelle that just spotted a lion in the distance.

Jay-Z typically doesn’t make eye contact during interviews, and his voice cracks often as you can see in this interview.

Frankly, Both look like they would rather be elsewhere.

5.       Both Are Accused of Stealing

One of the INTJ’s greatest strengths is their ability to improve existing systems.  INTJ's approach creativity like an engineer, where they take an existing template and make improvements to it. This can sometimes cause people to accuse them of stealing ideas.

Jay-Z has long been accused of stealing Biggie's lyrics for his songs.  Several of Jay-Z's early songs include revised Biggie lines.  Nas even called Jay-Z out on this on his diss record Ether.

Cameron and Tyler Winklevoss accused Mark Zuckerberg of stealing their idea for a Harvard based social networking site to create Facebook.  These accusations led to Facebook agreeing to a settlement with the Winklevoss twins.

One is a tech billionaire, the other a music mogul, but that's where the differences end. On the surface Mark Zuckerberg and Jay-Z seem like completely different people, but if you dig deeper, you'll find more similarities than you can ever imagine.
